Health & Wellness Fair! by Jennifer Umbarger, Media Coordinator Added: 8/12/08 2:45 PM The PTA Wellness Committee is gearing up for the first (annual?) Rogers-Herr Health & Wellness Fair on Friday, September 12. This will start with a walk-to-school (from Shops at Lakewood OR Lakewood YMCA [starting location to be finalized later]) followed by what will be a day of activities based around good health and wellness. Each team will have time to enjoy the fair "booths" on the field as well as lessons and activities in the classroom based around healthy living. The day will culminate with an all-school pep rally. Some of the groups tentatively scheduled to host booths include:
- YMCA (circuit training course)
- Girls on the Run
- Duke Athletes
- Durham Health Department (blood pressure checks, etc.)
- Durham Police and Fire Departments
- Healthy food samples (Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc.)
- Durham Parks and Recreation Department
The committee is in the process of recruiting the Bouncing Bulldogs and Senior Divas to perform at the pep rally as well, and $150 in prizes to be awarded will be generously provided by the Duke University Store. Please provide us with any ideas you have for activities to do throughout the day as well as connections you have with any groups or organizations that may be beneficial to include in this Wellness Fair.
